Not all sunscreens provide the same amount of protection.

Sunscreen is important, but some sunscreens are better than others. At Child’s World Academy, our child care experts in Newtown know how important protecting your child from the sun is, and that’s why, in our last blog, our day care center went over a few things to look for in your child’s sunscreen. Keep reading to learn about more things to look for in sunscreen for your child:

#3. Sweat or Water Resistance

There’s no point in wearing sunscreen if it will come off when it gets wet or sweaty, and that is especially true if your child will be swimming or doing something active in the sun. If your sunscreen says that it is water resistant, it means that it will be effective for 40 minutes after your child has been in the water, so be sure to apply regularly.

#4. Kid-Friendly Ingredients

Children have sensitive skin, and unfortunately, adult sunscreens often contain chemicals that can irritate their skin. Luckily, sunscreens that are made for kids don’t normally have those chemicals. The following is a list of the chemicals to avoid when buying sunscreen for your child:

  • Retinol
  • Para-Aminobenzoic Acid
  • Dioxybenzone
  • Sulisobenzone
  • Titanium Dioxide
  • Zinc Oxide

#5. Your Preferred Brand

No matter how effective the sunscreen is that you purchase, if it’s not a brand you like, you probably won’t use it all that often. For the best results, look for all of the features we’ve gone over in a brand you love. This way, you’ll be sure to use the sunscreen on a regular basis.
