In our last blog, our child care center in Cortlandt Manor went over a few tips for managing your child’s screen time. To recap, we’ve already talked about establishing screen-free times and places, banishing screens of all sorts from the table and knowing what your child is doing at all times on their screen. The following is a list of a few more screen time management tips from our experienced day care center, Child’s World Academy:

  • Make rules that apply to the whole family – Nothing causes a family argument like different rules for different people. Avoid the argument by ensuring that your entire family follows your screen time rules. Remember that you are the role model, and your child will set their screen time expectations based on how you use your phone and watch TV.
  • Select options for the whole family – You don’t want your kids to watch TV by themselves all the time, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t have any screen time. Limit screen time to movies, shows and games that the whole family can enjoy together.
  • Make the time worthwhile – While your kids many absolutely love to play Angry Birds and other popular games, they aren’t always worthwhile activities. Make screen time more worthwhile by pre-selecting educational apps, games and programs for them to use.
  • Encourage your kids to earn screen time – It’s never too early to start teaching your kids about the power of hard work! Allow your children to earn more screen time with by doing chores, homework, etc.

In addition to all of the awesome screen time management tips we've already talked about, there are also several apps out there that can help make managing screen time easy! Stay tuned for our next blog to learn more.
