There are many New Year’s resolutions you can make that can benefit your entire family!

Whether it be losing weight, saving money or getting organized, many people make New Year’s resolutions that can benefit them personally. However, when you have young children and you want to teach them about New Year’s resolutions, it may help to pick resolutions that you can work on as a family. If you haven’t picked your 2017 New Year’s resolution yet, you’ve come to the right place. Our child care experts in Peekskill have come up with this list of the best New Year’s resolutions to make with your kids and your family in 2017:

#1. Eat Dinner Together

Family dinners are so very important, but many busy families just don’t have the time for them. In 2017, resolve to make the time! Family dinners can benefit kids in so many ways, from adding nutrients to their diet to improving their chances of doing well in school, and you can learn about many of those benefits when you read our previous blog.

#2. Save Money

Kids are never too young to learn the value of a dollar, as well as the hard work that goes into earning that dollar. Many kids don’t understand the concept of money, but by setting the example and saving more as a family, you can help the lesson set in. Have your kids do chores around the house to earn allowance, and if they want something, like a toy or a computer game, teach them how to save up for it.

#3. Spend Time Outside

With so many of us in classrooms and offices all day long, most people rarely get any time outside at all. Spending time outside is good for you and your child in a number of ways, including healthier sleep habits, so it’s important to make time for the great outdoors.

#4. Stay Active

When your schedule is packed with deadlines, appointments and recitals, it’s not easy to find time to exercise, but it’s important for the entire family to stay active. You don’t necessarily need to go to the gym as a family; there are plenty of ways to stay active while having fun. You could play a sport, ride bikes, go rollerskating, take the dog for a walk or a number of other activities.

#5. Learn Something New

Kids love to learn, and there’s no better time to start learning something new as a family than the new year. Whether it be a new cooking technique, a language or a craft, your child will love the learning something new with their family.

New Year’s resolutions don’t have to just be about benefiting or bettering yourself; you can choose one that will benefit your entire family. Regardless of what New Year’s resolution you choose as a family, make it a point to keep it so that you can set a good example for your child. To do this, make a plan and stick to it.
