News from Administration

October was a very busy month! We enjoyed “Bring Your Teddy Bear to School Day” on the 10th, as well as “World Smile Day” on the 6th.  We also had a Pumpkin Decorating Contest between all of our classrooms and celebrated Family History Month.  If you have yet to contribute a leaf to our Family Tree in the lobby, please stop by the front desk to pick one up!   On October 31st, we had our Fall Festival parties and parade. Everyone looked wonderful!  Thank you to all who contributed to our parties.

We love love love Child’s World! The faculty and staff go above and beyond to make every child feel loved, cared for, and nurtured; and, every parent confident, secure, and welcomed. Our older son graduated from the preschool program last June, and we look forward to many more years with them for our younger son. I would highly recommend CWA to anyone looking for a daycare, or preschool program.

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten

November is a special month.  This time of year we all feel thankful and our theme this month is “Giving Thanks!”  Our weekly themes are “Health and Nutrition”, “The Five Senses”, “Pilgrims and Native Americans” and “Turkeys”.  For Science this month we will identify two senses by smelling and tasting.  We will also practice using our ears to gather information, rather then our sight.  We will play “what is in the jar” and use our hands and our sense of touch to figure it out.  We will learn about germs and we will also be talking about healthy food choices and will identify the different food groups.  For Math we will be doing patterns.  We will also be counting the feathers on our turkeys!  For our Author Study this month, we will be reading stories from the author Mercer Mayer.   Some of his stories that we will be reading include: I Just Forgot, Just My Friend and Me, Me Too!, and Just So Thankful. For Fun with Fitness this month we will be raking leaves, jogging, and playing hopscotch.  We will also being doing large muscle obstacle courses.  For Character Development this month we will talk about being grateful.  Our Poem of the Month is called the “Thank You Poem”.   Our Spanish words this month include: food (comida), healthy (sano), germ (germen), taste (sabor gusto), smell (olor), touch (toque), turkey (pavo) and gobble (gluglu).  We will be learning food, health, life, touch, see, hear, bird and brown for Sign Language this month.  Some of the songs we will sing this month include ”Wash, Wash, Wash Your Hands” “The Five Senses”, “Five Pilgrims”, “Thanksgiving”, “Five Fat Turkeys” and “Mr.Turkey”.  We have some great Art projects to go along with our themes this month.  We will have a lot of fun making “smelly art” and texture art.  We will also make bead necklaces, fruit and vegetable collages, pilgrim and Native American hats, and of course…turkeys!  We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving feast on November 25th!

Conferences and Brigance Screening

This month, we will be having conferences for all ages (these are optional).  There will be sign up sheets on the doors.  In our Pre-Kindergarten class, your child’s teacher will be meeting with you to discuss the Brigance Screening.  This is a screening to see what your child already knows.  We can then focus our attention on areas that your child needs to work on during the school year. Overall, our children do very well on this screening! We will do the Brigance Screening again in the spring and we’ll hold conferences again at that time.

Thanksgiving

Our annual Thanksgiving feasts will be held on Tuesday, November 25th.  Sign up sheets will be on the classroom doors one week beforehand.  Parents are more than welcome to come and join us!  Our school will be open a full day on Wednesday, November 26th.  We are closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 27th and Friday, November 28th.
