November is an incredible month as we prepare for Thanksgiving and the holiday season ahead, making it a fantastic time to introduce and practice gratitude with your children. Here at the Child’s World Academy, we work hard to provide a quality education that builds a strong foundation for your child’s future while also introducing various lessons that can be used in day-to-day life. One of the many topics that we want to not only cover, but practice, is gratitude.

In today’s blog post, we are going to go over a few of the different ways that you can introduce gratitude to your children and practice it on a regular basis, let’s get started.

Daily Gratitude

There are countless things to be grateful for on a daily basis, which is exactly why practicing gratitude regularly is so important. At the end of the day, whether they’ve been at school or it’s a weekend at home, take some time to go over a few of the things that they were grateful for throughout the day.

Maybe it’s time spent with a friend, the note that you sent with their lunch, or some time reading their favorite book. Whatever it is they’re grateful for, spending time to recognize these things and moments is important and something that, when practiced regularly, can develop into a habit.

Express Gratitude for Them

One of the best ways to talk about gratitude is by expressing it towards your little one. If you’re going to be working on practicing gratitude regularly, do your best to include them in the list of things that you’re grateful for. Aside from that, show gratitude whenever they do something around the house or go out of their way to help you. Again, the more often that they’re exposed to this form of gratitude, the more likely they will be to practice it regularly.

Be a Helping Family

Gratitude is a fantastic trait to acknowledge and practice on a regular basis, but it’s all the more powerful when you and your little ones go out and help those who may not have the items that they’re expressing gratitude for. Some of the best ways that you can go out and act on the gratitude that you have during the holidays is by helping those that are less fortunate. There are countless ways that you could be helpful during this time of the year including:

  • Spend a day at the homeless shelter.
  • Organize or donate to a food drive for your local food bank.
  • Adopt a family and help with Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas gifts.
  • Donate old toys to children who don’t have toys or need Christmas gifts.
  • Donate coats, hats, gloves, and boots to shelters.
  • And more!

By teaching your child that their gratitude can become a means of giving and helping those less fortunate, this lesson becomes all the more powerful.
