Podcasts are changing the way we all consume news and information, listen to stories, and engage with the world. Arguably, they offer some of the most innovative content today, and there are plenty of podcasts that cater to young children. At Child’s World Academy, our daycare teachers love engaging children in these sorts of educational activities, and we have lots of go-to podcasts for kids. Here are some of our favorites:
Dream Big is hosted by 7 year-old Eva and her mother. Together, they interview experts on various topics, celebrities, and people they admire. The big-name guests make this podcast fun for parents, while the upbeat attitude of Eva and her mother, who encourage kids to follow their big dreams, is great for kids.
Wow in the World is produced by NPR, and the hosts discuss current events pertaining to science and technology. They present the information in a way that is clear and engaging to children, but is still packed with the kind of content that appeals to parents as well.
Do your kids need time to relax? A few minutes spent on mindfulness while in the car might do them a world of good. Peace Out combines breathing exercises along with guided visualizations. This podcast is also great for bedtime, or any time your kids need to regulate their mood and activity level.
Produced by the same team as Peace Out, Story Time offers 10-15 minute stories that are sweet, soothing, and perfect for toddlers and young preschoolers. They are similar to having a favorite book read aloud, and the content tends to be relaxing and very age appropriate for the littlest of little ones.
What If World is a very silly podcast. The host takes the goofiest of kid questions and follows them through to their logical conclusions. “What if Legos were alive?” “What if sharks had legs?” These questions and more are answered with a great deal of humor and a dose of abstract thinking.
