Summer is here, but it will be gone before you know it, and if your child is going to start kindergarten in this coming school year, it is the perfect time to start preparing them for the transition. Going from preschool to kindergarten isn’t always easy, and not just for kids, it can be hard on parents too! Luckily, our day care center in Cortlandt Manor is here to help! The following is a list from our child care experts of tips to make the transition to kindergarten as easy as possible:

#1. Come terms with the situation.

Before you can help your child get used to this exciting, new step, you will need to come to terms with it yourself. Once you’re used to the idea of your baby growing up and going to kindergarten, it’ll be easier for you to help them get used to it too!

#2. Make goodbyes positive.

Saying goodbye to preschool can be difficult, but goodbyes are a part of life. Make those goodbyes positive by creating a preschool memory book with your child. Not only will this help your child say goodbye to preschool, but it will be a great keepsake later in life.

#3. Talk to your child about their concerns.

Ask your child about their fears and concerns about starting kindergarten. Regardless of whether they are worried about making new friends or not knowing where the bathroom is, a conversation can really help to ease their fears.
