If you have a little one that is about to head to preschool, you are likely experiencing a whirlwind of emotions: a little bit of excitement at the idea of some more time to yourself, a little bit of pride that your kiddo is about to start school, a little bit of fear recognizing that they’ll be without you for hours at a time, as well as a handful of other emotions. In the case that this is 100 percent how you’re feeling, keep reading. The team at Child’s World Academy in Monroe is going to give you a few pointers so that you’re fully prepared for what’s to come at your first preschool drop-off.

Keep Calm

One thing that we can all attest to is that children pick up the energy and attitude of the adults that they’re with. If you are a ball of nerves or you’re tearing up, we can almost guarantee that your child is going to feel the same way. For that reason, one of the best pieces of advice that we can give is to keep calm. Even if you are feeling a wide range of emotions, don’t let your little one know. Smile through the emotions and keep them excited about the day ahead.

Ask Questions in Advance

Given that this is  new to your child, there are going to be questions that come up. This is normal for all parents, but the one thing that we cannot stress enough is to ask these questions in advance. Our team wants to provide you with all of the answers that you need, but drop-off (especially the first one) is not the time to do it. Kids are getting accustomed to new people and a new place, emotions are high, and you can guarantee your little one will have their eyes on you. Rather than let them see the nerves that are sure to show when asking these questions, take some time to visit the facility and ask your questions early on. That way, you can walk into the classroom and know with confidence that they’ll be fine.

Make Goodbyes Quick

As difficult as it will be, you want to make your goodbye as quick as possible. Aside from the fact that long goodbyes are sure to lead to a slow and difficult tantrum, longer goodbyes also give your child the idea that crying will get you to stick around longer. This is a horrible habit to get them into, so the sooner that you get them accustomed to quick goodbyes, the better. We understand just how difficult it can be, but we promise — this will be worth it!
